A look inside my mini-getaway at L’Auberge Carmel
Driving in to this quaint town, I am immediately captivated by the silent draw, pulling you in to the lull of the ocean waves which can be heard no matter where you stand since the town itself barely stretches past one-square mile, formerly owned by Clint Eastwood, his evidence is in the ‘San Antonio’ street signs and multiple array of Cowboy boots boutique stores. The french twist however is equally present with street-lined french patisseries and restaurants, fine-dining and a bohemian artists heaven.
The L’auberge Carmel Hotel embodies the essence of Carmel with it’s renowned restaurant which includes a 10-course dégustation menu, its stand-alone french-inspired bathtubs and interior decor, located within minutes walking to the beach. We were privileged to stay on the top floor of the 1929-established hotel, with sea-views and a birds-eye view of the charming courtyard. On arrival we are greeted with a watermelon-soda mocktail and our bags taken for us up to our room by one of the helpful hotel staff, while another parks our car for us for us to enjoy a smooth and efficient check-in.
Our bed was incredibly soft and comfortable with those pillows and mattress that seem to shape around your body perfectly and you happily get swallowed into a deep-slumber with the ocean sounds meditating you away. Definitely a serene environment for those who want to sleep-in and relax in bed on a lazy sunday afternoon! The room is equipped with Nescafe coffee machine, office area with TV, separate bathroom with stand-alone bath tub and bath products from H20+ Beauty.
The foyer has daily newspapers for guests, a separate coffee/bar area equipped with fireplace for relaxation, another room additionally for check-in/out and guides of what to do in the area and across the foyer lies the restaurant. L’Auberge Carmel guests are welcome to enjoy breakfast every morning in the restaurant or in the comfort of your own bedroom, naturally we tried it both ways! In-room being hilarious and fun in our robes trying to take happy snaps on the bed and practically busting into fits of laughter!
Luckily we were able to catch the courtyard with some sunshine as it had been overcast the first whole day, during our stay we saw people dining, enjoying breakfast, peacefully reading and working on their laptops in the courtyard. But as you can see, you can still catch uninterrupted moments for yourself to privately enjoy the space if you time it right!
Our stay at L’auberge Carmel was nothing short of delightful, it was as quiet and peaceful as the town it’s located in and the staff were above and beyond helpful with directions, suggestions, our car/luggage and overall friendliness – they even gave us cute yellow and white striped beach towels to enjoy on our road trip to Big Sur!
There is definitely a lot to do in the area and L’auberge Carmel is very ideally located within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants, beaches and will even organize special excursions of your choice like romantic picnics or sunset cruises, they even have an elope-getaway package if your in the mood to be adventurous and seize your spontaneity when it bites!
I thoroughly enjoyed my R&R stay and would definitely invite you guys to enjoy the same!
